Dentures
(Cast Partial/Flexible)

Dentures are removable dental prosthetics used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. There are two common types of dentures: cast partial dentures and flexible dentures.

Cast Partial Dentures

Cast partial dentures are made from a metal framework that attaches to the remaining natural teeth. The metal framework helps to provide stability and support to the denture. Acrylic or porcelain teeth are then attached to the metal framework to replace the missing teeth.

Benefits of cast partial dentures:

 - They offer a high level of stability and retention, making them suitable for patients with multiple missing teeth.

   - The metal framework provides strength and durability.

   - They can be adjusted and modified easily if necessary.

Drawbacks of cast partial dentures:

   - The metal framework may be visible, especially when smiling or speaking.

   - The metal clasps used to attach the denture to the natural teeth may cause discomfort or irritation in some cases.

Flexible Dentures

Flexible dentures, also known as flexible partial dentures, are made from a flexible thermoplastic material (usually nylon). They are designed to be lightweight, comfortable, and biocompatible.

Benefits of cast partial dentures:

 - They are more aesthetically pleasing as the flexible material blends in with the gums, making them look more natural.

   - They provide a more comfortable fit and can be easier to adapt to compared to cast partial dentures.

   - The flexible material allows for better shock absorption during chewing, making them more comfortable to wear.

Drawbacks of cast partial dentures:

   - They may not offer the same level of stability as cast partial dentures, especially in cases of extensive tooth loss.

   - They may be more susceptible to staining and discoloration over time.

  - Repairs and adjustments to flexible dentures may be more difficult due to the nature of the material.

It's important to note that the choice between cast partial dentures and flexible dentures depends on various factors such as the number of missing teeth, the condition of the remaining natural teeth, the patient's oral health, and their personal preferences. A dentist will evaluate the individual's specific needs and guide them in selecting the most suitable type of denture.
